Dear YA participants,

Welcome to the 2024 BERMUN Youth Assembly!

Unlike other committees, the YA focuses on local grassroots initiatives to achieve tangible change, rather than tackling global issues from a governmental perspective. As a result, delegates do not represent different Member States, but speak for themselves to tackle important problems. YA participants spend the conference developing action plans to implement social change through an initiative.

This year, the YA‘s theme aligns closely with the conference banner theme of global citizenship; we will consider “Integrating Civil Society: Fostering a Global Identity and Fighting Fragmentation through Local Initiatives”. This broad theme addresses the importance of a unified and connected society among increasing political polarization and social sectionalism. Delegates will have the chance to work on a wide variety of initiatives, from school-based diversity organizations and political debate spaces to helping immigrants and marginalized groups better integrate into wider society. Over the course of four days, we will work together with talented and capable young adults from around the world, coordinating, collaborating, and implementing change.

This year’s BERMUN will be my third MUN conference overall and second as a student officer, and I am greatly looking forward to meeting this year‘s YA. I am a 16-year-old high school junior in 11th grade attending the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin. I have attended this school for 5 years, and enjoy acting in performances, running stage tech, and recording podcasts in my free time. I am passionate about history, science, and math, and I’ve enjoyed working in the BERMUN team for quite some time.

I can‘t wait to meet all of you in November.

Sincerely,

Miles Ehrlich
