- Breaking the Cycle of Abuse in Homes and in Schools -

From 2005 to 2009, the Youth Assembly focused on creating innovative solutions to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. During the 2010 conference, the Youth Assembly will strive to break the cycle of abuse in homes and in schools.

This year the Youth Assembly will continue with the aim of previous conferences, namely, developing individual projects which will focus on the participants’ respective communities. Participants will incorporate their personal passions into student initiatives to raise awareness of domestic violence and abuse in schools, and to raise funds for the cause. The goal of these projects is not only to break the cycle of abuse in homes and in schools, but also to lead to the empowerment of youth as professional representatives of our generation in civil society.

We encourage students with the determination to tackle the issues of immediate concern to the youth to join the Youth Assembly. Students will develop individual strategies and projects to address an issue they feel passionate about. By engaging in discussions with like-minded youth, participants will undergo a process in which they Recognize, Analyze and ACT. The process of exchanging ideas and developing innovative projects leads to members becoming active members of civil society and empowering youth. They also become members of a peer-to-peer network through which Youth Assembly Ambassadors support each other in their initiatives. For further information, please contact the Youth Assembly Coordinators via email at youthassembly@gmail.com.
