Dear Delegates of the Economic and Social Council 1,

I am honoured to welcome you to BERMUN 2021!

At this year’s BERMUN, the ECOSOC will be discussing the issues of “Mediating Post-War Tensions Among Ethnic Groups” as well as “Economic Interdependence as a Means to Prevent War”. The topics are vital in pursuit of peace in today’s world of war and conflict. Achieving peace and ethnic co-existence in the aftermath of conflicts is attainable. Preventing war through globalisation and international alliances are realistic goals.

As delegates of the ECOSOC, it will be your responsibility to analyse factors ranging from the intensity of conflicts and their humanitarian consequences to the risk of recurring conflict and means to build economic interdependence. In order to prevent a dangerous escalation of conflicts, we must do everything in our power to mitigate the risks and take precautionary measures. I look forward to hearing your solutions and approaches to these crucial issues.

This will be my eighth MUN conference and my third time chairing. I am currently in the 11th grade, and I live in Regensburg, Germany. Before this, I lived in India. I have enjoyed participating in MUN since I was 12 and I am so excited for everyone to benefit from debating as much as I did. Apart from MUN, I enjoy playing the piano and volleyball in my free time.

Speaking from personal experience, I know it can be overwhelming to attend MUN conferences. I would encourage all delegates to make the best of this virtual conference, engage in constructive debate and just enjoy! MUN is a great opportunity to discuss international affairs, meet new people and increase your confidence.

I am looking forward to meeting you all!
