Dear Panelists,
Welcome to the first-ever NATO Summit at BERMUN!
The rules-based order of the post-World War II era has been fundamentally rattled by the rise of authoritarianism. Our conference theme, “Building a Rules-Based Order to Withstand Authoritarianism,” explores this new world order. In light of this fundamental shift in geopolitics, NATO will be deliberating over the Situation in Ukraine and Strengthening Resilience Against Cyber and Hybrid Threats.
Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine has profoundly reshaped global security dynamics, making NATO’s role more critical than ever. The conflict has tested the alliance’s unity while also accelerating military and strategic shifts across Europe and beyond. Meanwhile, rising cyber warfare and hybrid threats—from disinformation campaigns to attacks on critical infrastructure—underscore the urgent need for stronger defenses.
In preparation for this conference, please read the NATO Handbook, as NATO proceedings differ significantly from those of all other committees. Please research your country and its policy seriously, as you will be required to hold a one-minute opening speech on your country's policy based on the issues that will be discussed in the committee and counted on to contribute regularly to the summit discourse. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact bermun.nato@gmail.com.
On a personal note, I'm a 17-year-old German-American student at the John-F.-Kennedy School in Berlin, Germany. BERMUN 2025 will mark my twelfth MUN conference and seventh as a Student Officer. Outside of MUN, I enjoy playing tennis and spending time with friends.
I can't wait to meet all of you in November!
