Dear Delegates,
As the emergence of authoritarian regimes threatens liberal values and global stability, it has become crucial to establish systems that uphold justice and freedom, as conveyed by this year’s conference theme: “Building a Rules-Based Order to Withstand Authoritarianism.” Under this topic, we will specifically focus on how we can address issues that have surfaced within international trade, as well as develop ways we can leverage trade policies to resist authoritarian influence and promote sustainable development in this year's World Trade Organization committee.
What policies should we establish to make sure carbon border adjustments do not disproportionately affect LEDCs? What are ways to balance climate action with ensuring fair economic opportunities for all? How can we protect trade policies from becoming tools of exploitation? These are some of the questions that will be addressed, and through international dialogue and cooperation, we will aim to develop solutions that foster a more inclusive and sustainable trade environment for all.
On a more personal note, this will be my 9th MUN conference, as I enter my senior year at the American School of Warsaw and 4th year taking part in HS MUN. While I have previously chaired, been a delegate, as well as an advocate in various conferences, this is my first time ever taking part in the WTO, which makes this experience all the more exciting. Having participated in BERMUN three years in a row, it is hard to believe that this will be my last chance to take part in this conference, so I hope to enjoy it to its fullest and leave with no regrets.
I am looking forward to meeting you all and will strive to make this committee a truly memorable experience!
Sincerely,
Emilija Daunyte
