Dear BERMUN Participants,
I'm honored to serve as Assistant President of the Economic and Social Council at BERMUN 2025!
This year's theme, Building a Rules-Based Order to Withstand Autocracy, addresses the current problem of rising autocracies. Over the last few years, more countries have been gravitating toward an autocratic form of governance. This is very concerning since it challenges the UN goal of inclusive political institutions. Therefore, it is essential to establish multilateral frameworks to withstand autocracy, such as the evasion of accountability and the undermining of inclusive institutions. Building a rules-based order connects to ECOSOC‘s theme of “Regulating multinational corporations” since it focuses on building rules to ensure that the economic power of multinational corporations does not get abused.
Our topic will center around finding a consensus on how to regulate and supervise multinational corporations (MNCs), to end exploitation especially in the Global South. This ties to our conference theme as there is systematic exploitation through state-founded MNCs.
This will be my sixth conference overall. I am very excited to start this journey by chairing ECOSOC since I have never gotten the opportunity to be in it as a delegate.
A little about myself: I am a ninth grader at the John F. Kennedy School. Outside of academics, I enjoy running, cycling, and swimming, as well as baking and hanging out with my friends. Additionally, I love participating in MUN debates since it has enabled me to become a much better writer and gives me a different perspective on world events.
I look forward to meeting you all and being part of a truly memorable MUN experience.
Sincerely,
Frida Tischbier
