Assistant President

of the

ECOSOC

Taiwan American School

Dear Delegates,

It is an honor to welcome you to the Economic and Social Council at BERMUN. I am truly excited to serve as your Assistant President this year and to be part of a committee that engages directly with the foundational issues of justice, equity, and global governance.

Over the past four years, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in more than a dozen international MUN conferences in a variety of roles—delegate, chair, facilitator, press, and members of the Secretariat—across all traditional, THIMUN, UN4MUN, UNA-USA, and crisis formats. These experiences have allowed me to explore many corners of diplomacy and policymaking, from social development to environmental justice. They’ve also taught me how vital it is to approach discussion with empathy, purpose, and a commitment to elevating diverse perspectives.

This year’s ECOSOC topics—Regulating Multinational Corporations and Ensuring the Fair and Prosperous Development of LEDCs—reflect critical tensions in the global economic order. One calls for curbing concentrated power; the other, for building pathways toward inclusive growth. Both are directly connected to this year’s conference theme, Building a Rules-Based Order to Withstand Authoritarianism. In a world where accountability structures are being tested, our committee has the responsibility—and the opportunity—to explore how fair, transparent, and cooperative systems can help counter rising authoritarianism and promote sustainable development for all.

Stepping back from the formal side of things, I am a rising junior at Taipei American School. I enjoy attending many concerts, baking, leading student initiatives to help the homeless, and shopping with friends and family. These interests have shaped who I am today, and I hope my interests can spark different engaging conversations with you all at BERMUN.

I look forward to seeing you all in November!

Sincerely,

Julianne Lin
