Dear Delegates,

I’m very pleased to welcome you to ECOSOC for BERMUN 2026!

In light of the BERMUN 2026 conference theme, “Resilient & Sustainable Development to Combat Climate Inequality”, we will be focusing on systematic solutions for sustainable growth and energy independence in ECOSOC. The current shift from fossil fuel reliance to renewable energy sources like solar, hydroelectric, and wind is gaining speed all over the globe, especially in more developed countries. However, as the populations grow in less developed countries, reliance on coal combustion and subsistence fuels is increasing as a result. A successful shift from fossil fuels to renewable, even non-depletable fuels, needs global cooperation, rather than action limited to specific regions, in order to achieve successful sustainable development.

The issues we’ll be discussing in our committee, "Reassessing Market Capitalism for Sustainable and Equitable Growth” and “Ensuring Energy Independence by Reducing Reliance on Fossil Fuels,” are aligned with the BERMUN 2026 conference theme. Within the United Nations Economic and Social Council, these topics address some of the most pressing issues linked to unsustainable development and unequal access to clean energy. "Reassessing Market Capitalism for Sustainable and Equitable Growth” focuses on creating economic systems that prioritize social equity and climate-related inequalities, while “Ensuring Energy Independence by Reducing Reliance on Fossil Fuels” focuses on the transition to reliable and long-term accessible energy sources in order to reduce the impact of global climate change in developing countries.

This fall, we’ll be addressing major world issues in our committee, such as sustainable energy usage and inequalities regarding the usage of renewable energy. We expect all delegates to engage in fruitful debate, speak up, and contribute to well-thought-out resolutions.

I’ve been modeling the United Nations for four years, and BERMUN is my 11th conference. I come from Hisar School, Istanbul, where I’m also the president of our MUN club. I enjoy spending time in the kitchen, baking, and cooking for my family and friends. My other hobbies include journaling, spending time with loved ones, and reading books on politics.

I look forward to seeing everyone in BERMUN 2026!

Sincerely,

Maya Kontente
