Dear Delegates,

I’m honored to welcome you into the Political Committee!

We will be debating the issues “Addressing Neo-Colonialism” and “Combating State-Sponsored Terrorism.” These topics are imperative to ensure human rights and security are met. Neo-colonialism deprives countries of their independence by taking away sovereignty and economic justice. Furthermore, Addressing Neo-Colonialism is critical to protect cultures and human rights from foreign interests. On another note, State-Sponsored Terrorism abuses government power, endangers millions of civilians, and damages the trust between society and governments. Additionally, Combatting State-Sponsored Terrorism highlights the importance of both national and international law and security.

The Political Committee’s topic fits perfectly with BERMUN’s conference theme, “Building a Rules-Based Order to Withstand Authoritarianism,” as both issues share authoritarian traits such as undermining independence and sovereignty of countries as well as violence to evade global security and international law. Withstanding authoritarianism is vital as it doesn’t just focus on governments or smaller bodies, but it’s addressed on a global spectrum. By addressing these committee topics, we ensure the reinforcement of non-biased accountability, protection of democratic bodies and the well-being of all states.

On a more personal note, I am 15 years old and in 10th grade at Frankfurt International School. Aside from MUN, I have been a competitive swimmer for 8 years, I ride horses, road bikes, and participate in my local windsurfing community in Sweden. This BERMUN will be my 10th conference, and I can’t wait to share this experience with you all!

Sincerely,

Moa Skarp
